About Us

In a resolve to promulgate Biotechnology in the state, the Government of Madhya Pradesh has put forward a well defined Biotechnology Policy. The Madhya Pradesh Biotechnology Council is authorized to oversee the implementation of this policy, which aspires to coordinate and promote Biotechnology (BT) sector in realms of education, research and industry with a perspective to develop skilled manpower who can be instruments in realizing the commitments as well as being future entrepreneurs. The Council endeavors to act as link between Academia, Research and Industry. The initial thrust of MPBTC is on strengthening Masters level training and Faculty training programs to expand the breadth and depth of Biotechnology in the State. Impetus is also given to innovation and entrepreneurship in Biotechnology by funding and encouraging the transitional research taking place in various universities and Government research institutions across the State. For the development of highly skilled manpower for the success of research in biotechnology and bioenterprise the GoMP along with the Council has taken initiatives for setting up Institute for Life Sciences & Technology at Bhopal. For strengthening the link between Academia, Research and Industry, the GoMP along with the Council also endeavors to establish Biotech Park and Incubation center at Indore. The MPBTC is working to accomplish these to promote Biotechnology driven economic and sustainable development of the
State.

Objectives

The Council is established to coordinate the promotion of the Biotechnology (BT) sector in Madhya Pradesh and oversee the implementation of the biotechnology policy of the state government. To achieve this it shall, inter-alia, :-

• provide assistance to Government departments/ agencies to encourage biotechnology application and research through industry and local communities;
• facilitate the  development of education in the discipline;
• and undertake any other function(s) as may be assigned by the state government.

Mission

MPBTC is working with a mission to expand opportunities in biotechnological education and research by organizing trainings, awarding fellowships and funding research having productive outcomes for the State. The Council along with the State Government shall make efforts at the community and State levels to harness the potential of biotechnology for value addition in agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, forestry, use of bio-fuels and create an environment conducive for biotechnology industry to grow thereby improving the quality of life of the citizens.

To harness the potential of biotechnology as a powerful enabling technology that can revolutionize agriculture, health care, industrial processing and environment sustainability in the State.
